music choice

The song we have chosen as a group is 'The Dilemma' by You Me At Six

We chose this song for many reason, firstly as a group we liked the particular genre of music that You Me At Six are part of. Another reason is because we wanted to do something different compared to the songs that other groups had chosen, most of them had chosen something that is like drum and bass or girls singing sad songs, whereas by chosing this song and genre it gives us a lot of options to have our music video which is very orginal. We also liked the idea that we could use instruments within this song as it was clear that there were instruments envolved.

Lyrics:

Let me tell you a story bout' a boy and a girl,
A very different version than you've ever heard.
Ok so I'm lying but all I'm trying to say,
This isn't about the one that got away.

Watch it from your ivory tower,
Paint the sky grey, like a coward.
How long you got?
I can go for hours.
A sweet little tale that ended sour,
My words will ring in your ears.

Take my advice and leave right now.
You can't find a way to sell yourself,
To someone who cares,
To someone desperate.

First came along my friends were dubious,
She cared for the stage, not who she was with.
I brushed it off and hit the road,
Only to hear she's in the other's 'pose'.
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/y/you_me_at_six/the_dilemma.html ]
It was the end of summer in 2009,
I wasn't really looking but what did I find?
A golden girl with golden hair,
When I was with her everybody stared.
And I couldn't believe my luck had changed.
And I asked so nice but I 'wouldn't stay'

Take my advice and leave right now.
You can't find a way to sell yourself,
To someone who cares,
To someone desperate.

'Beggars can't be choosers',
I wouldn't choose you,
I've got better things to do with my time
I will bear in mind,
What was in their 'side'

(Na na na na na na na na na na, na na na na na na na,
Na na na na na na na na na na, na na na na na na na)

She said who do you, she said who do you,
She said who do you, she said who, DO YOU! ?
Who, do you? Who do you?
I said who do you, I said who do you.

Who do you, who do you, think you are,
Who do you, who do you, think you are,
Who do you, who do you, think you are,
Who do you, who do you, think, you, are!

music genre

the music genre is pop punk and there are many bands at the moment that are like You Me At Six

All time low :

the all time low lead singer Alex Gaskarth is very similar in what he wears to Josh Franceschi
in most of their videos there cameraring is focused on the main singers.

another similaritiy is that in most of both of the bands videos they are a mix between a performance and story

Slender: the inspiration for our video

This is the video game that has inspired us to base our music video on. we thought this would be a good idea because the genre of music suits the game genre with its dark imagery.

Editing Practice

firstly to practise editing to the beat, we were given a Final Cut document with the following things:
 six different tracks.
Cut up footage from the video  by DJ Formats - We Know Something You Don't Know. this is the Original version is below.

this was to have our first go at using this footage and editing it to a specific to the beat. The advantage of using this footage  is that because in the video the performers are wearing animal costumes there are no issues with lip-synching.

From the process we learned the following:

1) By arranging the video sequences on top of each other on the timeline you easily cut through the footage to cut between the various performances.

2) Clicking on the Show Audio Wave Forms to bring up an illustration of beats and structure of the track. This allowed us to edit accurately to the beat and change the pace of the editing to suit the tempo of the track.
3) To create an authentic and interesting edit, there has to be regular transitions between a variety of performance types.
Here is an example of our work:

Lip-Synching

first of all we were given ex students music videos and we had to recreate a music video using their clips and music to match up the lipsyncing to the correct moments.

Firstly we placed the track on the timeine about 10 seconds in and lock it so it can be changed or moved.
We then found the very start of the first line of singing on footage in the  and placed a mark (m) and then did the same with the audio in the timeline.
The footage was then put onto the timeline making sure that both the marks matched up. if we could see that it was a little out of sync then the footage could be moved left or right byusing the < and > keys.
The rest of the footage was lip-synched in the same way and place on different lines allowing us to interchanged between the footage creating a fast paced edit between already synched footage.
