Location

We have decided on an initial location of using a forest in Wicken. The location is just down the bottom of Drury Lane.

The location is a public forest with access to the left of the forest where we will be able to park a car for the drum kit. Inside of the forest there is a clearing which is where we will be able to film the performance shots and then there is more covered areas where we will be able to film the sub plot.

There are also different locations where we could possibly film more shots or the sub plot. These are located close to the main location and are within walking distance.

The location has many different hazards which we will need to be aware of when filming. Potential hazards will include trip hazards such as tree roots and fallen tree's. There will also be trip hazards like cables for lights.

Equipment

The equipment that we are going to use includes:

• A camera
• Tripod
• Dolly
• Lights
• Guitars (Bass and Electric)
• Drum Kit

We will be using the camera to film our video and we will be using the tripod to keep the camera steady. We might also use a dolly for shots where the camera will be traveling. We will be using external lighting to light up where we are filming as we will be filming at night. We will possibly acquire these from college. The instruments will be used for the performance as the band that we are doing the song for have instruments. We will use our own instruments for the performance.

Digipak analysis

The font similarities between the Sum 41 and Green Day covers are bold so they stand out in contrast to the rest of the covers.

The colour similarities are that the Green Day and A Day To Remember covers are both flat but bright colours with a lot of mixture of colour across the whole cover. Another similarity between these two is that there is a lot going on in these covers, which is a contrast to the other two where there isn’t a lot. This is a layout similarity.

our pitch feedback

i thought our pitch went really well, there were some areas where i was very confident on what we were doing so i didnt feel i could explain it so i took a back seat and let everyone else in our group explain it.
one of the questions from everyone else was:

do you have a set schedule :
we currently dont because we need to make sure that adams brother is able to be involved because he works we need to revolve the the filming around when he is free. also one of our memebers has a weeks work experience so we have to make sure that we have filmed before that so we can start on the editing process.

Track Selection

This is the selection of music track that were presented to us that we had to use for our music video. the genres range from rock to rap and from rave to new-wave.
We decided to chose 'The Dilemma - You Me At Six' as our track.

Still image analysis using Goodwins Points

Goodwin drew up a set of points which relate to music video's. These points are:

1. Music videos demonstrate genre characteristics (e.g. stage performance in metal video, dance routine for boy/girl band).
2. There is a relationship between lyrics and visuals (either illustrative, amplifying, contradicting).
3. There is a relationship between music and visuals (either illustrative, amplifying, contradicting).
4. The demands of the record label will include the need for lots of close ups of the artist and the artist may develop motifs which recur across their work (a visual style).
5. There is frequently reference to notion of looking (screens within screens, telescopes, etc) and particularly voyeuristic treatment of the female body.
6. There is often intertextual reference (to films, tv programmes, other music videos etc).

I used these 6 points to then analyse some still images of 4 bands.

 

Blink 182 – All The Small Things

This shot is taken of Tom Delonge (Guitarist and Singer) as he is singing the song and performing with the band. The simple close up shows the artist as he is but allows the audience to see what he is singing. The background is of fans of the band so it shows that this is not a studio recording. I thought it could be used for our production because it is effective to show a band with the fans of the band as it shows the support and provides a good background for the artists to be in front of.

Linkin Park – In The End

This shot shows the lead singer Chester Bennington as he is walking out of a kind of pyramid structure. This shot used good lighting to provide a background that is effective in the impact wanted by the shot. It could be used for our production because it shows the impact that lighting has on a background.

Mumford and Sons – Little Lion Man

This shot shows a close up of the instrument of one of the band members. This shot shows a good use of effective lighting and also a good use of camera angles to provide an effective shot. It could be used for our production because it shows the effectiveness of many camera angles.

Lostprophets – Rooftops

This shot shows the whole band performing. This shot shows a good use of long shots to allow you to see a lot of what you are capturing. This could be sued for our production because it shows how effective a variety of camera angles allow you to see more of the band/artist you are filming.

Music Video Conventions Research

The genre for our music video is the Indie/rock genre. I conducted some research into the conventions of this genre of music and the videos. I also decided to conduct extra research into the pop genre and the conventions of the music videos as our genre could also be classed as indie/pop.

Indie/Rock

·         Tends to be black and white
·         The artist/band is shown throughout
·         Lots of uses of extreme close ups and long shots
·         Dark locations
·         Fast paced
·         Some use of special effects

Good examples of all these being used are by bands such as Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys and The Fray.

 

Pop

·         Bright and colourful

·         Close ups show the bright and cheery atmosphere

·         Extreme close ups tend to show the  purity and innocence in the personality of the artist

·         Usually aimed at the teenage audience

·         Very upbeat
